Mosquito Facts & Control
Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance—they're one of the deadliest pests worldwide. Known for their itchy bites and ability to spread disease, mosquitoes thrive in warm, humid environments like those found throughout Missouri. United Pest Control offers targeted mosquito treatments to help protect your home and family.
What Do Mosquitoes Look Like?
Mosquitoes are slender, flying insects with long legs and a single pair of wings. They measure about 1/4 inch in length and have a long proboscis used to suck blood. Only females bite, as they need blood to develop their eggs.
Where Mosquitoes Breed
Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water. Common breeding sites include birdbaths, gutters, flowerpots, kiddie pools, and even bottle caps. A single female can lay hundreds of eggs in her lifetime, making early intervention essential.
If You Are Bitten by a Mosquito
It was born within a 1000' of where you were when bitten!
Our application for control is not only to have a contact kill but to control when and when a mosquito lands on our application. Mosquitos have very weak wings and can only fly short distances before they have to land to rest their wings
Health Risks of Mosquitoes
- West Nile Virus
- Zika Virus
- Dengue Fever
- Encephalitis
- Heartworm (in pets)
In addition to disease transmission, mosquito bites can cause allergic reactions, severe itching, and infection from scratching.
Why DIY Mosquito Control Falls Short
Citronella candles and bug sprays may offer temporary relief, but they don't eliminate breeding sites or reduce mosquito populations. Without proper treatment, mosquitoes will continue to multiply and return after every rain.
