TYPES OF TERMITES
Although there are multiple species of termites throughout the world, in our service region we deal with Eastern Subterranean Termites. The colony lives within the soil and can be up to 50' away from a structure or deep underground. Some colonies, also known as Super Colonies, can contain over 100,000 termites! The Eastern Subterranean colony consists of four castes: Queen, King, Soldier, and Worker termites.
Queen Termite

The queen is the largest member of the colony and is responsible for reproduction. She can live for many years, laying thousands of eggs that keep the colony growing.
King Termite

The king stays by the queen&pos;s side throughout his life, helping to start the colony and continuing to fertilize eggs to ensure its survival.
Soldier Termite

Soldiers have large, hardened heads and strong mandibles. Their job is to protect the colony from predators, especially ants.
Worker Termite

Workers make up the majority of the colony. They are responsible for foraging, feeding other termites, building tunnels, and causing the wood damage that threatens structures.
